Psychological Testing: Overview & Guidelines
Testing Overview
At Clarity Psychological Testing, our psychological assessments are structured into three key appointments:
Intake Appointment
During this initial session, you will meet with one of our clinicians to provide background information and clarify your concerns. This appointment may be brief if there are only a few areas to explore or may take up to 45 minutes for more complex concerns.Testing Appointment (In-Person)
This appointment typically lasts between 4 to 6 hours and is conducted in-person at our office with one of our psychometrists. You’ll complete a series of standardized tests tailored to your presenting concerns.Feedback Appointment
In this final session, your clinician will review your testing results, discuss diagnoses (what was ruled in or out), and provide individualized treatment recommendations. Approximately two weeks after this session, you will receive your finalized report through our secure patient portal.
Before Your Appointment
Your pre-screening form will serve as part of your initial history. During your intake, additional details will be gathered.
Please upload or email any prior neuropsychological testing, school evaluations, or other relevant records before your first appointment.

Clinical Scope & Limitations
At Clarity Psychological Testing, we reserve the right to decline cases that do not align with the clinical focus of our practice. Our services are designed to provide diagnostic clarity within a medical model and are not intended for forensic or legal purposes.
We are not an appropriate provider for individuals seeking evaluations for the purposes of:
Avoiding legal consequences
Influencing custody or adoption decisions
Supporting disability claims
Obtaining accommodations that are not medically necessary
Court-mandated assessments
Forensic or legal proceedings
Adoption, surrogacy, custody, capacity, or disability determinations
As a practice operating within the parameters of health insurance, our evaluations must meet medical necessity criteria and are not intended to serve legal, forensic, or advocacy goals. Choosing to undergo testing with us may waive your right to have a forensic specialist assess you in the future. Our providers are not trained or credentialed to offer expert testimony in legal contexts. Pursuing evaluation with us for non-clinical purposes may adversely affect your legal case or eligibility for benefits.
By proceeding with services, you acknowledge:
If you misrepresent your testing needs or fail to disclose a non-clinical motive, you accept financial responsibility for the full standard fee, outside of insurance coverage, along with any legal or consultation fees incurred.
Additionally, if it becomes apparent that a client is primarily seeking validation for a specific diagnosis—viewing the psychologist as a gatekeeper rather than a collaborative evaluator—we may determine that the case is not clinically appropriate for our setting. In such cases, we will offer referrals to alternative providers better suited to support those needs.
Our goal is to provide ethical, evidence-based evaluations that serve the best interest of each client within the scope of our clinical expertise.
Note: Clarity does not administer the ADOS-2, which certain institutions often require for a formal Autism diagnosis. However, we can assess for Autism in conjunction with testing for other concerns such as anxiety, ADHD, or depression.
Final Report & Payment
The final psychological report will be delivered once any out-of-pocket balance is paid in full. Please ensure your insurance and form of payment on file are current to avoid delays in receiving your report.
Wait Times
Furthermore, as one of the few in-network providers for psychological testing in the state of Massachusetts, we manage a high volume of referrals. As a result, the full testing process—from intake to final report—may take approximately 4 to 5 months.
If you require a report urgently (e.g., for medication management, school-based IEP meetings, or other time-sensitive needs), we recommend seeking out an out-of-network, private-pay provider. These providers often maintain lower caseloads and may be able to complete your evaluation more expeditiously.

Psychotherapy Services
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, can be a powerful tool for improving mental health. It may enhance relationships, reduce stress, and provide clarity around values and goals. However, it requires effort, honesty, and active participation.
What to Expect
The therapeutic process may initially bring up difficult feelings such as guilt, sadness, anxiety, or anger. This is a normal part of healing and is best addressed directly in sessions.
During your first visit, your provider will conduct a comprehensive review of your history and current concerns.
The initial session also helps determine whether there is a good fit between you and your therapist, which is one of the strongest predictors of success in therapy. If you feel the match is not right, we are happy to offer alternative referrals.
Session Structure
Most psychotherapy sessions are scheduled weekly for 45–60 minutes. Alternative schedules may be arranged based on your needs and goals.
Confidentiality Agreement
Confidentiality is a legal right for all clients receiving psychological services. All personal information presented to Clarity Psychological Testing will not be disclosed outside of the clinic except as authorized by a written release or as required by law. Exceptions to confidentiality include:

Suspected child, elder, or dependent adult abuse.
Risk of harm to yourself or others.
Legal proceedings requiring disclosure.
Collection of unpaid balances through an external agency.
Parental rights to access treatment information in custody cases.
If your case is reviewed for internal consultation (without identifying details disclosed).
